In the old quarter of San Sebastián, every local bar is a culinary heaven...
The Basque custom, observed in every single bar in the region, is to lay out assorted Pintxos (Basque interpretation of tapas), on the barra.
Pintxos familly is wide : red pimientos stuffed with bacalao paste, from the plump, green Gernika peppers, the garlic-speckled anchovies in oil and vinegar, the chorizos, the cheeses and chicken croquettes...etc , most of them astride on a slice of txapata or baguette.
But, if you wanna reach the paradise, order a plate of delicious morsels of the SO SICK ham: el Jabugo!!!

France through the eyes of Munir Ruffo: liners, French bread, topless, polite people, French sounding English…
I find myself a bit sad in the last couple of days, live in a reality way better than the brazilian one, where things actually work, people are polite and the waves break sideways on the shore left me a bit frustrated to be back in brazil. And I’ve only spent 11 days in France! Well… as my friend Andre Magarao and a bunch of funny tshirts says: “when life gives you lemons, make lemonade”!
Without a doubt this trip added so much experience to me. Walking around Paris by myself, where that is actually possible because the subway actually works on the entire city, spending 5 days in Cap Ferret with 3 dudes I’ve never seen before at a camping ground with movie theater, mini market and a huge Jacuzzi, be treated politely by everyone because of the simple fact that they are well educated and helpful was amazing!
My trip began on Tuesday the 26th of august at 5am, even before the sun was up. Due to a huge lack of organization from ---- I have to catch a flight to Sao Paulo Guarrulhos airport where I met Marcio Gameiro from Dirty Skimboards. A rare type of entrepreneur in Brazil, someone who supports the sport without expecting huge sums of money to appear on his bank account the next day. Here it goes my sincere congratulations and appreciation for the concern and wiliness to help me out on the trip to him and to everyone from SkimBrasil.
The plane took off at 11:30pm and landed in Paris long 11 hours later.
I got my bags and went straight to figure out how to get the Air France bus to the train station, Gare Montparnasse.
I only knew my way around because the crew from SkimBrasil has some friends in France...
But anyhow, I got to Montparnasse where I would meet Bernardo and Max (from Batardubreak).
When you first arrive at Gare Montparnasse is quite scary. There are millions of people walking franticly, lots of army soldiers full of guns, a huge amount of delicious French sandwiches, a bunch of different destinations and finally French people who are not very found of speaking English!
Luckily I managed to speak to Andre Magarao, who has been there before, and he helped me out on how to find my way in between so many trains. After awhile I met Bernardo and we left at 300km/h to Bordeaux. After a 3hours train trip we got to Bordeaux.
Once there we went straight to Remy’s house. He was super nice and a cool host letting us crash at his place.
I needed to sleep at Bordeaux so we could continue our journey on the next day.
We got up said goodbye to Remy and headed towards Dax, a town close by Hossegor.
As soon as we got off the train Bernardo’s friend Doud, who was also ahead of the organization of the contest, finally drove us to our final destination. After a more than 24hours trip I arrived at Hossegor.
Not everything was going that well. I didn’t have a place to stay because Arnette only tried to sort out accommodations on the last minute so they got me a hotel 40 minutes away from Hossegor, at a city called Bayonne. Since I didn’t have a driver or a car it was completely out of the picture to stay at the hotel. Once again the super cool French guys hooked me up with a tent and I crashed at Doud’s backyard.
After so many draw backs I was finally calm and enjoying the trip.
Bernardo, Max, Doud and his family, Loic, Lolo, Mathieu, Bedex and many others were definitely someone the coolest guys I’ve ever met and I couldn’t be more thankful for all their help. I hope some day they come to Brazil so I can so them some good time around here! I had some amazing times with my now French friends, always laughing and having a good time. I learnt a lot from them and their culture. Out moments speaking English with a French accent mixed with Spanish and Portuguese were always a reason for lots of laughs.
On our first day in Hossegor the conditions weren’t very good because of the strong swell, but it was a good start. The best skimmers in Hossegor were also the most humble and down to earth!
The contest started on Friday and every passing minute I was more astonished with the organization. Definitely the most polite crowd I’ve ever seen! One of the things that I learnt in France is that a huge structure, big speakers and free food is not what makes a contest well organized. At the French contest a sandwich coasted 4 Euros but the prize money was paid on the very same day! I still haven’t got my 500 reais from the second place of the contest at Ipanema almost a year ago!
Back to the contest, Hossegor stoped during the final heat, I had the 4th best score of the semis but since I was third in my heat I was out. Either way, I was super stoked I reached the semis. Not to meantion I was the youngest in the Pro division.
As some of you have already seen, the contest ended at this super sweet pub, full of surfboards autographed and all.
After the award ceremony there was this dinner for everyone involved on the contest. It was definitely an unforgettable trip!

Skim Festival, Rio de Janeiro, RJ
Sol,
praia, altas ondas, muitas gatas na areia e som na caixa, assim foi
realizada a terceira etapa do Circuito Skim Festival Brasil, na praia
da Macumba – RJ, neste final de semana, dias 11 e 12.
O
grande destaque da competição foi o jovem prodígio Leandro Azevedo, que
mais uma vez faturou a etapa. Leandrinho já havia ganhado a 2ª etapa do
circuito, em São Sebastião, litoral paulista. Com a vitória no Rio de
Janeiro, ele assumiu a ponta do ranking do Skim Festival Brasil,
deixando para trás Allan Gobbo.
A próxima etapa será no mês de novembro, na praia da Sununga, em
Ubatuba, nos dias 07, 08 e 09. O evento fechará o circuito e definirá o
grande campeão brasileiro de skimboard de 2008.
A terceira etapa do Skim Festival Brasil foi uma organização da Auskim,
Apoio: Skim Paradise, Quiosque RicoPoint, e Prefeitura Municipal de
Ubatuba.

Tenant du titre qu’il a valeureusement gagné face à Momo Just en 2007, maintes fois champion d’Europe et récemment second de la Zap Mustach 08 qu’il aurait vraisemblablement du empocher devant Jaime Lovett. Retraite ou pas retraite cette année, Huguette fera à tous les coups la différence dans ses heats si les conditions sont cracras et ventées pour finir dans le tiercé.
Olivier Chabert aka Guyano (Team Unamas)
Après 2 ans d’absence de métropole, il est de retour! Nouveau team, nouvelle planche.
On sait tous qu’il est capable d’aller chercher les vagues là-bas…là-bas…
Mais osera-t-il ridé avec son traditionnel calimbé rouge ? Là, réside la véritable interrogation !
Munir Ruffo (Team Dune)
La fine gâchette de Rio vient de faire la plus belle couverture de FSM. On ne parle que de lui...
Le talent, il en a, l’inconnu se situe plutôt dans sa fatigue liée au voyage express et dans sa capacité à gérer des conditions crados…Attention à l’ulcère pour son manager Mathieu Booba Taxi.
Rafael Castillo aka Raffa (Team Victoria)
L’espingouin, troisième homme à pratiquer le monkey drop, a montré de bien belles choses en avril dernier à Barcelone.
Mais pour devenir un « grand », il faudra juste qu’il range un peu sa fierté au fond de sa poche.
Emmanuel Embaxador aka Mega (Team Zap)
Toujours présent avec sa silhouette de buse qui prend son envol, il pourrait lasser le jury à force de rentrer son spécial «backside mousse surf down the line».
Joao Dinis aka Jaydee (Team Victoria)
En retrait du circuit Portugais cette année depuis que le plus francophile des Mussstach' goûte aux joies de la vie professionnelle à la Mairie de Cascais. N'ayons crainte, il sera à coup sûr premier sur le podium des animateurs et dans le cœur des filles.
Thiago Carlos aka Porva (Team Slide)
Le rival de l’état de Sao Paulo, leader des boys de Sununga, semble plus à l'aise que Munir pour exploiter des conditions médiocres. Typiquement le genre de mec capable de vous sortir un barrel avec une Hell’s sous les pieds.
Antonin Langeard aka L'enfant Langeard (Team Unamas)
Véritable force de la nature, le jeune Viking du Cotentin sait dorénavant concilier bitures et performances. A suivre !
Romain Fraigneau aka Jed (Team Exile)
On peut le dire… la déception du Tour français 2008. Mais le Jed aura sûrement à cœur de prouver que lui aussi sait régler un réveil et de montrer quel véritable rider il est au Grolandes!

Le petit frère de l’autre. La technique est là, manque juste au jeune pubère un peu plus de duvet pour muscler ses rollers.
En effet, l’enfulte manquerait peut-être d’un peu de puissance dans ses manœuvres pour impressionner un jury composé de Jacob, Gut, Francesco et Ricou.
Olivier Harrault aka Wipe, Bushido (Team Exile)
Le papé de la vieille garde est toujours là et pourrait encore sortir quelques séries façon la machine à wrap pour atteindre la demi.

L’homme qui fracasse toutes les étapes nationales du Skim Tour cette année. Peut-être pas le plus stylé mais assurément un mec efficace et surtout si c’est c’est vilain.

Il compte bien nous régaler les tympans lors de la soirée de samedi! Mais entre la Chenille et la Salsa du démon, il pourrait bien nous crossfader un combo dans le break façon Grand Master Wrap.

Pour fêter son retour de blessure, le tenant du titre Junior de l’International est parti s’envoyer une tartine de gros à Laguna et Cabo. Il pourrait cette année faire des étincelles dans la catégorie senior pour le plus grand bonheur de la Med Connection. Il vient surtout de prouver qu’il en a en allant shooter tout seul un Solmar FATouna.

This years announcement comes with a nice little surprise: Zap, Victoria, and Exile Skimboards have all stepped up to the plate and put together a $10,000 purse for the Top Six UST Riders. Paulo Prietto was again able to squeak out a first place victory. Paulo knows the formula: make it to the finals in nearly every event and win a couple. Easier said than done. This third consecutive world title was also his closest. After an early exit at the Oktoberfest contest, 2nd place finisher Brad Domke had a brief opportunity to snatch it away. It was not to be however, as he was soon edged out in the same round of competition.
After a partial rookie season in 2005, and then an injury last year, this was 18 year old Brad Domke's first full year on tour. Ending up only a solid wave or two from the world title is certainly not a bad way to start.
Morgan Just has been a top UST contender for years and shows no signs of slowing down soon. What looked like it would probably be a fourth place finish this year quickly turned into a third place as Grady Archbold was eliminated early this past weekend.
Grady Archbold is no stranger to the top UST rankings. Going into the final few events he appeared to be well positioned to recapture the number two spot. Solid last minute performances by Brad and Morgan made this a difficult task however, and he slid one spot to number four by the slimmest of margins.
Brendan Stevens made his first appearance last year at seventh and improves upon that record this year with a fifth place showing. Solid work from one of the most powerful skimboarders in the world.
Sam Stinnett is the 14 year old super-grom to beat. After skimming only 5 of the 8 events, he has earned himself a sixth place finish, some cash, and a feat that may never be topped: the youngest competitor to make it to the top 10 ever.
Skimboarding legend Bill Bryan only skimmed three events this year but still racked up enough points to earn 7th place on the tour. Will we see him compete on the circuit again? He isn't saying if a Slater like comeback is in the works.
Brandon Rothe is possibly the essence of style on a skimboard. After some lackluster finishes and missed events early in the season, he came on strong winning the last two events and securing a top 10 spot.
Jason Wilson is one of the tour veterans who simply knows how to get it done. Traveling to all the events and earning solid finishes on both coasts makes it happen.
Jaime Lovett is the wildcard of skimboarding. Clearly one of the most talented riders out there, he has yet to commit to a full tour. Even with just two events under his belt, he was able to barely squeak out a 10th place. We want to see more Jaime.
Thats it. The 2007 season is in the bag.

On pourrait évidemment vous raconter qu'Hugo a survolé les débats, qu'Ivan Ashauer est un alcoolo, que le Team Mussstach' s'était rasé le pubis pour l'occaz, que Momo est tombé in love, mais qu'il s'est aussi mangé une tarte pour son premier Euro Trip, que le mec qui a collé une mandale à Momo s'en est pris une, façon puissance 4 par l'ogre de Pessac et que tout ça s'est fait sur fond de bonnes chansons.
Mais, au poids des mots, on préférera le choc des photos!
Et, on ajoutera une dernière chose: Pas mal l'organisation ! (BNK et Skimfoutre Tour)

"A first place finish from Paulo Prietto in Vilano only widens his lead in the top spot. Meanwhile Stephen Bradford launches from 18th place to 10th after a solid second place finish. The last east coast event of the year is scheduled for next weekend. The title is still in play."

Sabado, día 19 de Mayo del 2007, a las 11ºº !
El domingo día 20 de Mayo, Free ride day !
Plazo de inscripción el día 19 de Mayo 1 hora antes de cominenzo de la competicion (osea, a las 10ºº) , esa es la fecha limite de inscripción para poder participar en el campeonato. Coste de la inscripción NADA!! 0, GRATIS !!
